A calm, practical introduction to using Plant Therapy KidSafe products with children—beginning with age guidance, labels, low amounts and attentive supervision.
What Does KidSafe Mean?
Plant Therapy's KidSafe designation helps parents identify products formulated for children aged 2–10 when used exactly as directed. It does not mean that every essential oil is appropriate for every child, or that more product gives a better result.
Children have smaller bodies, developing respiratory systems and more sensitive skin than adults. Their aromatherapy routines should therefore be simpler, lighter and more carefully supervised.
Begin with the label. Check the exact product, age guidance, method and dilution every time. Advice for one KidSafe blend should not be copied automatically to another.
Five Rules for Family Aromatherapy
- Choose an age-appropriate product. Use Plant Therapy products carrying the KidSafe logo for children aged 2–10 and follow the stated directions.
- Use the lowest practical amount. A gentle aroma is enough; children do not need an adult-strength blend.
- Dilute topical products correctly. Do not apply undiluted essential oils. Ready-made KidSafe roll-ons remove much of the measuring guesswork.
- Supervise every use. Adults should operate diffusers, apply products and return bottles to secure storage.
- Watch the child, not only the clock. Stop if coughing, headache, nausea, skin irritation or discomfort occurs, and move to fresh air when needed.
Choosing a KidSafe Blend by Routine
Bedtime and quiet time
Choose a softly aromatic KidSafe blend intended for evening use. Keep the rest of the routine predictable: dim lights, a familiar story and a short diffusion session can work together as cues.
Big feelings and busy moments
A KidSafe blend designed for calm can be paired with breathing, a drink of water and a quiet space. Aromatherapy should complement—not replace—comfort, communication and professional support when needed.
Fresh daytime atmosphere
Bright citrus-led KidSafe blends can make a playroom or study area feel cheerful. Avoid direct sunlight on skin after using products that carry a phototoxicity warning.
How to Use KidSafe Products
Diffusion
Follow the product and diffuser instructions. Begin with 1–2 drops for a short 15–30 minute session in a well-ventilated room, and allow the child to leave the space. Do not run a diffuser continuously or place it beside the child's face or bed.
Topical use
The easiest option is a correctly pre-diluted KidSafe roll-on. Apply only as directed to intact skin, avoiding the face, hands, eyes and broken skin. Patch test before broader use.
Linen and room sprays
Oil and water do not remain evenly mixed. Use a properly formulated, preserved product rather than adding drops directly to water. Keep sprays away from faces and surfaces that may stain.
When to Pause and Ask for Advice
- For babies and children under 2, seek guidance from a qualified healthcare professional or appropriately trained aromatherapist.
- Ask for individual advice for asthma, epilepsy, allergies, chronic conditions or regular medication.
- Do not use essential oils as a replacement for prescribed care.
- Keep all bottles, inhalers and roll-ons locked away; essential oils should not be swallowed.
- Pets have different sensitivities. Give them fresh-air access and consult a veterinarian when unsure.
